A picture is worth a 1000 words is an idiom that relates to garden work. If you see and like the textures and colors applied in the images, I may be the gardener for you. My method of work is fairly simple, and can be organized into three stages.
First, is the initial cleanup. This step clears the ''cobwebs" so to speak and allows you the opportunity to work with a new canvas. Sections that seemed overgrown and impossible take on a new light. The first step will also help me observe the level of light and shade.
The second step would be plantings. This stage may or may not apply to your needs. But, most gardens have empty pockets or the owner would like to add some annual color.
The final step of course is maintenance. A well-tended yard is a beautiful one. Whether you sit in your yard or view it from a window, a well-kept space gives a sense of serenity and tranquility.
